As 2012 comes to an end, and 2013 is around the corner. I have been reflecting, as I often do, about what I got accomplished this year online. At the start of this year I was a total newbie to the whole world of internet marketing, the whole concept about what drives the economies on the net, and how on earth were people making money here. I was totally immersed in this learning process.
Back in the late 90`s I taught myself how to start a computer, and send an email. Then on to the more complicated things. I was busy back then running a business, and raising three wonderful daughters, so I learned slowly, and only by mistakes. I made them all, and learned about
how hard drives can crash and your whole system is gone. So as we do, I made several purchases of a new computer and started all over again.
This year has been one of study and a huge learning curve. I am sure that many of you who are established online and earning incomes that enable you to be full time online, can relate to the struggles of a beginner. :) Beginning with information overload, I succumbed to this naturally. It took a mere, thousands of information sites on where to start., what to learn, what others have done, seo, tips, tutorials, newsletters, reading hundreds of articles, learning how to start a blog, set up a word press site. Then onto another few months of finding all kinds of scammy sites high pressure sales pages that wouldn't let you exit the darn things, and kept on offering time sensitive ,now or never type sales pitches.
Whewww, and then the times of sheer and utter frustration due to information overload, that had me questioning what the heck am I doing. I had piles of half written articles that were falling over on my desk, and lots of fresh folders to start adding in new information, and yet still i didn't have a topic or a plan of where to start.
The one thing i realized that i had done was certainly drive up traffic for a huge number of sites. And finally I found excellent sites and was glad that my research helped traffic for those who taught me so much incredible information. I have found some gems in my many weeks of travels through sites. that I have bookmarked, and will love to write about, as soon as i get my foot on the gas peddle. :)
So today i sat again at my computer, quite bleary eyed from readers fatigue, and i said to myself "ENOUGH"
I have a basic general knowledge of what is going on in here, and I am missing the crucial step of just Starting. Feeling overwhelmed was stopping me in my tracks, with feelings of uncertainty, and self doubting. I kept procrastinating, as I felt i was a few more sites away from that
AHA, moment.
Then I had to look at the real problem that was holding me back, and it was me of course. I was scared to pick a topic, for a lot of reasons. Yet picking one, would send me out of the gate, from sore eyes, to production, So I did, and i started here. I knew if I kept questioning it all it would drive me in too many circles and make me dizzy.
I rationalized that I would now learn as i go, just as the others have, one day at a time, one post at a time, one article at a time. So I hope
my story has encouraged those of you who have also gotten caught up in this overwhelming informational land of how to's and why to etc.
Once you have the basic knowledge of what is going on , or could go on, just take your best calculated risk, and get going. Time will show you
where to tweak, and redirect. Patience, is really needed here, and this is not my strong suit, so I'm up for the test in this area, I will let it teach me to relax, and wait.
